Kim Pearce is a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist with a nursing background of over 30 years experience particularly working with the psycho social support care needs of people affected by cancer, whether it is personal, family or friend (often those who are living with loss and grief).

Prior to undertaking graduate studies in counselling and psychotherapy at Jansen Newman Institute, Kim’s counselling experience has been in telephone counselling as well as over nine years facilitating face-to-face and telephone cancer support groups.

Kim’s earlier work was in community nursing where she engaged with people from all walks of life living with chronic illness or the effects of illness on their day-to-day lives.

Kim recognises that for many people, the impact of chronic illness can change their outlook on life and who they are. What is “normal” for them is gone, often creating challenges personally and in relationships, limiting their full potential. Understanding how people respond to change, whether from health related issues or life’s circumstances, is fundamental to her practice.

More recently, Kim has worked with clients who have become unemployed through illness or injury and who wished to review how they could understand what was meaningful and learn skills to cope with the stresses in their lives.
